Pastine’s paintings are the result of an intense focus on craft, material and the presence of the hands. Her Doily Cut-Outs from the New York Times deal with chance and transformation. She selects pictures from the Times, which she folds and cuts, creating unexpected patterns when the doily is unfolded. The images she uses often interact serendipitously with the doily designs.
